Response to VA Mayor on Japanese American incarceration

My two postings on Roanoke, VA mayor’s statements on Japanese American incarceration this week (VA mayor cites “need” for WW2 Japanese American incarceration & “need” to halt Syrian refugees, from theĀ Washington Post.)

The mayor’s understanding of history is totally false. And it is egregious that he would recommend that the U.S. repeat one of the darkest chapters of our history.

Roanoke, VA Mayor Bowers needs a history lesson: the “Japanese” who were “sequestered” during WW2 were actually U.S. citizens. And they were incarcerated. And, by the way, the U.S. officially apologized for this historic mistake. More from Prof. Eric Muller at Densho: A Response to Mayor David A. Bowers – Densho: The Japanese American Legacy Project.
